A tall tree between your dish and the satellite will absorb and scatter the microwave signal, causing pixelation &mdash; especially in leaf, and especially in rain. You cannot always fell the tree, but you can work around it.<\/p>\n<h2>Understand How Trees Block Signal<\/h2>\n<p>Satellite signals at Ku band pass through dry leaves surprisingly well, but <em>wet<\/em> leaves attenuate heavily. A branch that gives a perfect picture in summer rain can turn into a snowy mess once the tree is in full, soaked leaf. A longer pole, a higher wall bracket or a roof position often clears the lower branches. Use a satellite pointer app with AR (augmented reality) to simulate the view from a higher mount before you commit.<\/p>\n<h2>Option 2: Use a Larger Dish<\/h2>\n<p>A larger dish collects more signal, giving you margin to absorb tree loss. If the obstruction is a thin branch or the edge of a canopy, an 80 cm dish may be enough where a 60 cm one fails.<\/p>\n<h2>Option 3: Move the Mount Sideways<\/h2>\n<p>Sometimes shifting the dish a few metres to the left or right opens a gap between branches. Use your satellite pointer app to scan the wall, fence line and roof edge for the clearest corridor.<\/p>\n<h2>Option 4: Prune (Carefully and Legally)<\/h2>\n<p>You may be able to prune your own tree back from the signal path. Never top a tree &mdash; it will regrow badly and damage the tree. If the tree belongs to a neighbour, talk to them first; cutting overhanging branches is usually allowed up to the boundary, but you must offer the wood back.<\/p>\n<h2>What Not to Do<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not aim through dense, wet evergreen foliage &mdash; it will never work reliably.<\/li>\n<li>Do not expect a small dish to punch through a mature hedge.<\/li>\n<li>Do not forget that deciduous trees grow &mdash; a clear path this year may be blocked in three years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Test Before You Finish<\/h2>\n<p>Once the dish is aligned, watch the signal quality meter on a wet, windy day. If it holds solid above 80% in the worst weather, you are fine. If it drops below 60% in light rain, the trees are still costing you margin &mdash; raise the dish or go bigger.<\/p>\n<p>Trees and satellites can coexist, but only with planning.
