Set Elevation Roughly First<\/h2>\n
Loosen the elevation bolts and tilt the dish to the angle shown on the app. Most dishes have an elevation scale marked on the arm — set it within a degree or two. Tighten finger-tight.<\/p>\n
Set Azimuth by Compass<\/h2>\n
Use a compass or the phone's compass to swing the dish to the correct left-right angle. Remember to correct for magnetic declination — the app does this for you if you give it permission to use GPS.<\/p>\n
Use a Signal Meter<\/h2>\n
Disconnect the receiver from the LNB cable and plug in a cheap satellite finder between them. Power on the receiver. As you sweep the dish left and right, the meter will jump and beep when it crosses a satellite. Sweep slowly — the satellite is narrow, and it is easy to swing past.<\/p>\n
Peak Both Strength and Quality<\/h2>\n
Once the meter jumps, stop and look at the receiver's signal screen. You will see two bars: strength<\/strong> and quality<\/strong>. Strength will already be high; quality will be low. Now nudge the dish in tiny increments — millimetres, not centimetres — in every direction until quality peaks. This is the real alignment.<\/p>\n Rotate the LNB in its holder slightly while watching the quality bar. Peak it. Then re-check the dish peak — skew and dish angle interact, so alternate between the two two or three times.<\/p>\n When quality holds at 85% or more, gently nip up the bolts. Do not tighten one bolt all the way — tighten them in sequence a half-turn at a time, re-checking the signal after each.<\/p>\n Run a scan. If you get the expected channels, tap the dish gently to simulate wind and re-check the quality. If it stays put, you are done.<\/p>\n Alignment is patience, not strength. The satellite does not care how tight your bolts are — it cares about fractions of a degree.
