<\/p>\nHD satellite channels are more demanding than old standard-definition ones, and 4K UHD channels demand even more from your dish, cable and LNB. The good news is that a well-installed modern dish handles all three with ease. Here is what changes when you are installing for HD and 4K.<\/p>\n
SD channels used a forgiving modulation and a lower symbol rate. HD and especially 4K use higher-order modulation (8PSK, 32APSK in DVB-S2X), which needs a cleaner carrier. A signal that looked “fine” for SD may pixelate badly on HD.<\/p>\n

Step up one size from the minimum. If a 60 cm dish used to give you SD, fit an 80 cm for HD. The extra 20 cm gives the signal margin that HD decoding needs.<\/p>\n
Use a modern universal LNB with a low noise figure (0.1 dB or better). Older, noisier LNBs give up exactly the edge that 4K streams need. If your LNB is more than five years old, replace it during the upgrade.<\/p>\n
HD and 4K signals are more sensitive to cable loss. Use WF100 \/ CT100 grade coax. Avoid long, daisy-chained cable runs. If your cable run is over 30 m, use the next-low-loss grade.<\/p>\n
A marginal connector that passed SD can drop out HD. Make every joint carefully, and weatherproof outdoor connectors with self-amalgamating tape.<\/p>\n
For HD you need an HD receiver (or a TV with built-in DVB-S2 tuner) and an HDMI cable. For 4K UHD you need a DVB-S2X receiver and an HDMI 2.0 (or better) cable. An old HDMI 1.4 cable may not carry 4K 10-bit.<\/p>\n
Peak the dish as carefully as you can. Aim for signal quality above 85%, not just “locking”. The extra margin is what keeps 4K stable during rain.<\/p>\n
Many receivers let you inspect the modulation and bitrate on-screen. Tune to a known 4K channel and check the margin — if the receiver reports signal quality over 9 dB (CNB), you have plenty of headroom.<\/p>\n
