The electronics inside already warm themselves from power dissipation. As it heats, it drifts. A small drift moves the received transponder off the receiver&apos;s tuned frequency &mdash; quality drops even though the dish is perfectly pointed.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 1: Fit an LNB Sunshield<\/h2>\n<p>A cheap plastic sunshield clips over the LNB and shades it from direct sun. It drops the internal temperature by 15&ndash;20&deg;C. This is the single most effective fix.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 2: Point the LNB Away from Midday Sun<\/h2>\n<p>If you are aligning a new dish, small adjustments to the feed-arm angle can shade the LNB body behind the dish rim. Not always possible, but worth doing if you can.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 3: Ventilation<\/h2>\n<p>Do not wrap the LNB body in insulation or tape it solid. The F-connector needs weatherproofing, but the LNB shell should breathe.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 4: Replace an Aging LNB<\/h2>\n<p>If an old LNB now overheats where it used to work, its internal capacitors are weak. A new &euro;20 LNB often solves the problem outright.<\/p>\n<h2>When to Suspect Heat vs Moisture<\/h2>\n<p>Heat problems are worst at the hottest time of day; moisture problems are worst when wet. If your picture dies in a thunderstorm, suspect water; if it dies on a sunny afternoon, suspect heat.<\/p>\n<p>An overheated LNB is one of the most under-diagnosed faults.
