Get it wrong and you either pay for outputs you will never use, or &mdash; worse &mdash; you run out and have to climb back up the dish.<\/p>\n<h1>The Rule: One Output Per Receiver Tuner<\/h1>\n<p>Each output on a multi-output LNB is a completely independent feed. A twin LNB runs two receivers; a quad runs four. You cannot split one output to feed two receivers (that causes voltage conflicts). It is the cheapest and has the lowest noise figure. There is no point buying a quad if you only have one box.<\/p>\n<h2>Twin LNB: Two Rooms<\/h2>\n<p>A twin LNB feeds two independent receivers. Typical uses: TV in the living room plus a second TV in the bedroom; or a twin-tuner PVR that needs two feeds for recording while watching.<\/p>\n<h2>Quad LNB: The Family Default<\/h2>\n<p>Four outputs. Covers most family homes: a PVR (two feeds), a bedroom box, and a spare. Add this if you might expand later.<\/p>\n<h2>Octo and Beyond<\/h2>\n<p>Eight outputs for larger homes. Beyond that, you use a &ldquo;multiswitch&rdquo; that feeds a whole apartment block.<\/p>\n<h2>Always Add Spare Outputs<\/h2>\n<p>The cost difference between a twin and a quad LNB is small. The labour cost of upgrading later &mdash; another ladder trip, another alignment &mdash; is not. If you are in any doubt, go one size up. An unused output costs nothing.<\/p>\n<h2>What Not to Do<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not use a passive splitter on a single LNB output &mdash; the two receivers&apos; voltage commands conflict and you will get half channels.<\/li>\n<li>Do not buy a twin LNB to feed a twin-tuner PVR &mdash; that works, but only if the PVR is the only thing connected.<\/li>\n<li>Do not forget the Sky Q \/ Freesat 4K wideband standard &mdash; those boxes need a specific LNB regardless of output count.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Count your tuners, add two spares, and buy once.
