Leave the receiver on a popular channel for an hour or two after setup &mdash; the EPG data downloads over the air. Some receivers support a full 7-day EPG plugin.<\/p>\n<h2>If the EPG Is Wrong<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Check the timezone.<\/li>\n<li>Reboot and leave the box on a channel.<\/li>\n<li>Clear EPG data and let it repopulate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Parental Controls<\/h2>\n<p>Most receivers let you lock channels behind a PIN. Set a PIN you will remember but the children will not. Lock adult and inappropriate channels.<\/p>\n<h2>Timer and Recording<\/h2>\n<p>Set up timers from the EPG &mdash; highlight a programme and press record. Make sure the receiver is on the right satellite and channel for the timer to work.<\/p>\n<h2>Standby Behaviour<\/h2>\n<p>Decide whether the receiver should fully power down or stay in a low-power standby. If you use timers, leave it in standby so recordings still fire.<\/p>\n<h2>Auto Standby<\/h2>\n<p>Enable auto-standby after a few hours to save power &mdash; but not so aggressively that timers fail.<\/p>\n<p>These everyday settings take minutes but pay off every time you watch.
