What to back up
Most satellite TV applications store several distinct types of data. Backing up all of them together prevents surprises when you restore on a new system.
- Channel lists and transponder databases
- Recording schedules and series rules
- EPG source configuration and favorites
- Software settings and profiles
- License or registration information
Standard backup procedure
- Open Settings and locate Export, Backup, or Save Profile.
- Choose a descriptive filename that includes the date and software version.
- Save to a location outside the program folder, such as a dedicated backup drive.
- Copy the backup file to a second location for redundancy.
Manual backup for advanced users
Application data is often stored in %AppData% or ProgramData. Copy the relevant subfolder before reinstalling the software. Check the documentation for the exact path and which subfolders are safe to restore.
Restore without losing recordings
Restoring a backup does not usually overwrite existing recordings. If the application prompts you to choose between merging and replacing, merging preserves both your old settings and any new recordings already present on the system.
Automation
Create a scheduled task to copy the backup folder to an external location once a week. Automated backups take minutes to set up and remove the risk of forgetting to do it manually.
