Before you update
Create a full backup of the application data. Export the channel list, recording schedule, and EPG preferences to a backup file. Also note the current software version and the driver version currently in use.
Step 1: Back up the application data
Most satellite TV applications store data in %AppData% or ProgramData. Copy the entire folder for the application to an external location before proceeding. Keep at least one backup that was created before the current session.
Step 2: Update the tuner driver
- Download the driver from the hardware manufacturer, not from a third-party site.
- Open Device Manager and locate the tuner under Sound, video and game controllers or Media devices.
- Right-click, choose Update driver, and select the downloaded package.
- Restart the computer after installation.
Step 3: Verify signal after driver update
Open the TV software and confirm that the tuner is detected and that signal quality matches the previous reading. If signal quality has dropped, roll back the driver and try a different version.
Step 4: Update the TV application
Run the software installer and choose the Update option if available. If no update option exists, uninstall the old version first and reinstall the new one. Do not delete the application data folder during uninstallation.
Step 5: Restore if needed
If the channel list or settings were lost, close the application, restore the backed-up data folder, and restart. Compare the current recording schedule with the backup to confirm that it is intact before relying on automated recordings.
