How dish-finder apps work
Most satellite dish-finder applications use the signal data coming through the coaxial cable from the LNB. They display real-time strength and quality readings on the phone screen, which is more convenient than watching a small on-screen meter from the roof.



What you need
- A compatible Android or iOS device
- A satellite meter app or a USB OTG adapter with a DVB-S2 tuner
- A working LNB and coaxial cable
- Your TV software signal monitor open for reference
Step 1: Connect the app to the signal source
If using a USB tuner with an OTG adapter, connect it to your phone and open the app before connecting the cable from the dish. The app will detect the tuner automatically if the correct driver is installed.
Step 2: Choose the correct satellite
Select the target satellite in the app. Many apps include a built-in satellite database that pre-configures the correct transponder frequencies and polarization settings.
Step 3: Coarse alignment
Set the dish elevation using your location and the satellite altitude. Rotate the dish slowly in the approximate direction while watching the app signal reading.
Step 4: Fine adjustment
Once a signal appears, make small movements in both azimuth and elevation. Move one axis at a time and watch for the peak reading. The narrow peak on most satellites rewards patience over speed.
Step 5: Verify in your TV software
Lock the transponder in the TV software and compare the quality reading with the app. The readings should be close. A large discrepancy indicates a cable issue or a misconfigured LNB setting.
