Why user profiles matter
Without profiles, all household members share one favorites list, one recording folder, and one set of EPG preferences. This leads to confusion about which recordings belong to whom and accidental changes to favorites that affect everyone.
Setting up profiles in supported applications
- Open Settings and locate User Accounts, Profiles, or Household.
- Create a new profile for each household member with a descriptive name.
- Assign each profile its own favorites group and recording folder.
- Configure parental control PINs for profiles that need them.
- Set a default profile or prompt on startup.
Per-user favorites
With separate favorites groups per profile, each person can arrange their channel list in their preferred order without affecting others. Some applications sync favorites to the cloud, which is useful for households with multiple viewing locations.
Recording organization
Assign each profile a dedicated recording folder. This makes it easy to locate specific recordings, back up only the folders that need it, and set storage quotas per user.
Parental controls
If the application supports per-profile parental controls, use them to restrict access to specific channels or content ratings. Keep PINs private and avoid using obvious numbers.
