Configuring a SAT>IP Server for Whole-Home TV
SAT>IP turns your satellite dish into a network source: instead of running coax to every TV, one server tunes the channels and streams them over your home network to TVs, tablets and phones. It is the modern way to distribute satellite TV.
What Is SAT>IP?
A SAT>IP server sits between the dish and your network. It has one or more tuners and streams selected channels as IP traffic over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Clients — apps on TVs, tablets or computers — watch different channels.

Hardware You Need
- A SAT>IP server box (or a software server on a PC).
- One or more tuners in the server.
- A home network with decent Wi-Fi coverage.
Number of Tuners
Each tuner watches one channel at a time. If two people want to watch different channels on different devices, you need at least two tuners.
Setting It Up
- Connect the dish to the server's tuner input.
- Connect the server to your router by Ethernet.
- Power on and find the server's web admin page.
- Configure the satellite and run a scan.
- Install a SAT>IP client app on your devices.
Bandwidth Considerations
An HD channel uses around 10–20 Mbps. Your home network needs to handle several simultaneous streams. Ethernet is more reliable than Wi-Fi for the server itself.
DiSEqC and Motors
SAT>IP servers can control DiSEqC switches and motors, but every tuner moves together. For multi-independent viewing, you need multiple tuners on separate LNBs.
SAT>IP is the elegant way to get satellite TV everywhere without drilling. It needs a small network investment but removes the coax-for-every-TV problem.
