How to Back Up and Restore Satellite Receiver Settings
Your receiver has years of customisation — favourites, timers, parental PINs — locked inside. A backup means a failed box or a factory reset is not a disaster. Here is how.
Why Back Up
- So you can restore after a factory reset.
- So you can clone settings to a second box.
- So you do not lose your channel list if the receiver fails.
Back Up to USB
Most receivers let you save settings to a USB stick:
- Insert a FAT32-formatted USB stick.
- Open the receiver menu → Backup / Restore.
- Choose “Backup to USB”.
- Wait for the process to finish.
What to Back Up
- Channel list.
- Favourites and bouquets.
- Timer settings.
- Picture and audio preferences.
Recordings on the hard drive are usually not included.
Restore When Needed
After a factory reset or on a new box, insert the same USB and choose “Restore from USB”. Reboot when prompted.
Do It After Major Changes
After you have spent an evening organising your favourites, back up. Do not wait until you need it.
Test the Restore
If you want to be sure the backup works, restore it to a spare USB slot and confirm the channel list comes back. A backup you have never tested is an assumption.
Five minutes of backup saves hours of re-organisation. Do it once, and again after any big change.
