How to Set Up a Satellite Receiver: First Time Configuration
You have just plugged in your new satellite receiver. The first-time setup wizard looks overwhelming, but the essential steps are simple. Here is how to get from box-in-box to watching channels.
Physical Connections First
- Connect the LNB cable from the dish to the receiver's “LNB IN” socket.
- Connect the receiver to the TV with an HDMI cable.
- Plug in the power and switch on both.
Run the Setup Wizard
Most receivers launch a wizard on first boot. Choose your language, country and timezone. These set the EPG and default channel ordering.
Configure the LNB
In the antenna menu, set:
- LNB power: on.
- LNB type: universal.
- 13/18 V and 22 kHz: auto.
- DiSEqC: off unless you have a switch.
Select Your Satellite
Pick the satellite your dish points at (e.g. Astra 19.2°E) from the list. If your satellite is not listed, add it manually with its orbital position.
Run a Scan
Choose “blind scan” or “network scan” and let the receiver find every channel on that satellite. Network scan is cleaner; blind scan catches everything but may include ghost entries.
Check the Result
Once the scan finishes, flip through a few channels. If they all work, the setup is done. If you see “no signal”, go back and check the LNB settings and the dish alignment.
Finish Up
Set your favourites, parental controls and audio preferences. You are ready to watch.
First-time setup is mostly letting the wizard run. The only part people get wrong is the LNB type — keep it on “universal” unless you have a specific reason not to.
